Stonecutters
56, Pipers 45
Even during the draft, the Piper coach expressed some anxiety about a
reliance on Lions players. In the U Conference Championship game, that reliance
killed Hamline. Eggs by Kitna and Calvin Johnson, and a 9 by Chris Redman in the
R1 position stick out in the boxscore. It was an otherwise inspired performance
by the Hamline squad. Aaron Stecker continued his WTFFL postseason TD madness
and Kevin Curtis finally got some points that counted with a TD reception and
an offensive fumble recovery TD. Gaffney and Mason each found paydirt, and Josh
Brown kicked for 9. All of it will only earn Hamline a trip to the Buzz Bowl because
the Stonecutter receiving game got back on track and Clinton Portis rocked it
Amadeus with his arm and legs. Jeff Reed kicked for 11, but the game MVP was David
Garrard. His 12-point performance gave Dale Street a decisive victory in the QB
battle and clinched a Stonecutter Whale Bowl berth before Portis and the Chargers
D took the field in primetime games. Tarvaris Jackson had the chops as well in
the R1 position, but he lost his NFL game, so that's not as good of a story.

Barons 43, Alley Cats 14
The game started out favorably for the Alley Cats on Thursday night with Holmes
over Ward by 3, but things went downhill from there for White Bear. Romo put up
a disappointing 3, the Saints receivers did nothing, and Phil Dawson lost the
kicking battle to Shayne Graham as the Browns were losing to the Bengals. The
Lions-Chiefs game epitomized White Bear's woes. They picked up the wrong D in
the right NFL game, and out of nowhere TJ Duckett, not Kevin Jones, got the Lions
rushing TD and yards. Addai gave the Alley Cats a glimmer of hope when he scored
an early TD for the Colts, but Peyton Manning would eventually cash in on his
opportunities and finished with 3 TD passes and over 300 yards. With a score by
Reggie Williams, the outcome was already decided by the time Randy Moss piled
on. The Minneapolis runners, playing in a late game out west, had the luxury of
resting up for the Whale Bowl next week where they will face Dale Street. White
Bear will take on Hamline in the Buzz Bowl.
