Over the years, the St. Paul Pioneer Press Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt has lured people outdoors to face the frigid weather and to search through some of the most scenic spots in the fair capital city to find a modern bit of buried treasure. Here are all the hiding places dating back to 1952.

2009 ???
2008 Indian Mounds Park – inside of a blue and white box of 3M invisible tape
2007 Hidden Falls Park – encased in ice, with the UAW Local 879 and Ford logos; Central Park (Roseville) – next to a tree with a split in the bark at its base
2006 Battle Creek Park – wrapped in a garter and a Pearson's Nut Goodie wrapper and frozen in a block of ice
2005 Crosby Park – hidden in the bark of a fallen tree limb
2004 Phalen Park – loose in snow (was in doughnut but doughtnut disappeared)
2003 Como Park – encased in ice
2002 Merriam Park – taped to the underside of a tortilla chip can liner
2001 Como Park – inside an Iron Man sports sock and tucked into a Dove soap box
2000 Newell Park – inside an Ace brand box of playing cards
1999 Conway Park – wrapped inside a white, crocheted holder
1998 Cherokee Park – placed inside an Old Navy brand sock
1997 Como Park – in a Curad bandage box, wrapped in a red bandana
1996 Harriet Island Park – inside of a Skoal tin
1995 Battle Creek Park – placed inside of a knitted yarn pouch
1994 Highland Park – inside of a little white box
1993 Hidden Falls Park – stuck inside of a diaper
1992 Cherokee Park – inside of a white mitten
1991 Langford Park – stuck inside of a Hostess brand Sno-Ball
1990 Como Park – wrapped in clay and grass
1989 The Capitol Mall – inside an earmuff
1988 Tony Schmidt Park, Arden Hills – coated with an almond bark
1987 Indian Mounds Park – wrapped in clay and grass
1986 Highland Park – inside of a pipe
1985 Kellogg Mall Park – glued inside of a White Castle hamburger box
1984 Newell Park – attached to a broken 45 rpm record
1983 Lake Phalen Park – substituted as filling in an Oreo cookie
1982 Wakefield Lake Park, Maplewood – wrapped in a newspaper
1981 Acorn Park, Roseville – taped in between leaves
1980 Como Park – inside of plaster
1979 Marthaler Park, West St. Paul – taped to a dead tree
1978 Harriet Island Park – frozen inside of a snowball
1977 Irvine Park – inside of a cigar box
1976 Keller Lake Park, Maplewood – attached to a piece of wood

1974 Cherokee Park – in a crushed Coke can

1972 Marydale Park – stuck inside a chunk of drain pipe
1971 Wakefield Lake Park, Maplewood – attached to baby buggy wheel
1970 Battle Creek Park, Maplewood – attached to a cast-iron vise
1969 Victoria Street and I-35E – in a crevice of two rocks

1967 State Fairgrounds – underneath eight inches of ice
1966 Harriet Island Park – attached to a flatiron
1965 Como Park – attached to a hunk of a printing lead
1964 Beaver Lake Park – attached to a gold-colored brick
1963 Caroll, Jefferson, Farrington and Rondo Street – found in a snowbank without protection
1962 Along Mississippi Street – attached to disc
1961 Highland Park – in a large clump of grass
1960 Harriet Island Park – in the heel of a boot
1959 Warner Road – under a tree
1958 Under Highway 61 Bridge – in milky ice (first year of medallion)
1957 Battle Creek Park – in a clump of roots above ground
1956 Como Park – inside a hollow log
1955 Seventh and Robert Streets – under a mailbox (chest had been magnetized)
1954 Hidden Falls Park – in a dead, hollow stump
1953 Cherokee Park – in a snowbank; State Fairgrounds – in a large bush near the Poultry Building (there were two chests hidden in 1953)
1952 Highland Park – in a clump of weeds
